Many existential challenges face humanity in the 21st century ranging from the threat of nuclear disaster to global warming, environmental degradation, mass migrations and human rights abuses. To stimulate reflection on the role that international law can or should play in this crisis environment, and its limitations for this purpose, International Law Blog is launching a call for submissions on the following, broadly-conceived, global issues:
The war in Ukraine and its consequences, including the global food crisis, the arms race and the threat of a nuclear attack or accident ;
Climate change and the (non-)compliance of global powers with the objectives reaffirmed in the Glasgow Climate Pact ;
The rise of border regimes relying on ‘pushback’ practices, generalised detention and surveillance technologies to respond to migration ;
The role of the discipline in dealing with the momentous challenges facing the international community.
This list is not exhaustive; all contributions addressing the impact, or absence of impact, of international law in relation to current global challenges are welcome.
